EE Program/Resource Details

Provided by:   Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS)

Description:  This guide is one in a series of GEMS guides, a guided discovery based curriculum project of Lawerence Hall of Science. Eight sessions introduce students to pH, acidity, the interaction of airborne pollutants and precipitation, and the effects of acid rain on aquatic ecosystems. The unit concludes with a town meeting simulation in which four interest groups present their points of view regarding an acid rain problem. Integrates ecology, chemistry, and meteorology with other disciplines. Lots of lab-based activities, simulations, and projects for students. A teacher needs very little science background to teach this.
