Organizational Information

Mission Statement: The San Diego County Fair offers two exciting hands-on experiences in agriculture for students in grades K-6.

The Plant-Grow-Eat program supplies seeds, soil, and containers to year-round classrooms, with a lesson plan for teachers to integrate into their existing science curriculum. The students are invited to bring their vegetables for judging to the Del Mar Fair, where they can enjoy a tour of a demonstration farm or a barn tour.

The School Tour program provides a "farm on wheels" assembly. Fair staff give a brief presentation about the importance of agriculture, and students get a chance to see piglets, sheep, goats, and dairy cows up close! The topic varies every year, but past topics have included "Green Eggs and Ham," "Sheep and Ewe," "Goats are Great," and "Kelp Forests."

Both programs are free to participating schools.
