Mission Statement:  The Guiding Principles of the Arroyo Hondo Preserve include the protection of Arroyo Hondo as a natural and historic preserve. Its foremost goal is the preservation of extraordinary historic, cultural, natural and scenic resources of the canyon. The Arroyo Hondo Preserve provides non-discriminatory, safe, enjoyable public, educational and research access designed to protect the canyon's natural resources. Outdoor educational programs are provided for school and community groups throughout Santa Barbara County.

The Preserve has an educational focus on state approved curriculum for grades 2 - 5. Riparian canyon home to five habitats and rich historical cultural transitions from 3500 yr. old Chumash village, through Spanish and Mexican rancho days, stagecoach stop, recent agriculture, to creation of permanent nature preserve dedicated to preservation and restoration of native habitats.

Walk back 30 million years in geologic time from the coastal estuary to front-country Alegria ridges. Tour the historic 1850 adobe. Beautiful creekside meadow is a perfect place for class or group picnic after exploration, learning and enjoyment.
