It goes beyond, however, to discuss ownership, land management, desert endangered species, and human perspectives on desert resources, using the Mojave Desert as a forum to present real-life environmental issues. Students are challenged to identify the problem, issues, players and positions, beliefs, values, and possible solutions for such current issues as water rights in Death Valley, a proposed landfill at Eagle Mountain outside of Joshua Tree, feral burros at Lake Mead, and accessibility issues in Mojave National Preserve.
