Description:  Mojave Desert Issues, A Secondary Curriculum (1999, 110 p.) presents secondary level students with background information regarding the types, locations, and forces shaping North American deserts, in particular the Mojave Desert of the southwest. It goes beyond, however, to discuss ownership, land management, desert endangered species, and human perspectives on desert resources, using the Mojave Desert as a forum to present real-life environmental issues. Students are challenged to identify the problem, issues, players and positions, beliefs, values, and possible solutions for such current issues as water rights in Death Valley, a proposed landfill at Eagle Mountain outside of Joshua Tree, feral burros at Lake Mead, and accessibility issues in Mojave National Preserve.
