Each grade level focuses on one marine environment and offers background information, science and mathematics activities integrated with language arts, social science, and art, teaching strategies, connections to children's literature, suggestions for development of student portfolios, and additional resources. Draft editions of K6 guides were reviewed for this compendium. The following guides were reviewed at the K3 level: Ponds (2001, 240 p. approx.), a study of properties of water, characteristics and life cycles of organisms, environments and organisms; Rocky Seashore (1999 revised, 420 p.), a study of properties of water, tides, waves, rocks, seasons, adaptation, litter, safety, care and respect; Sandy Beach (2001 revised, 341 p.), a study of tides and waves, formation and transportation of sand, food chains and life cycles, litter, pollution and oil spills; and Wetlands (2001 revised, 317 p.), a study of tides, sedimentation, food webs, adaptation, bioaccumulation and habitat loss.
