(1996, 104 p.) is a grade 610 science and social science curriculum unit that examines the methods by which biodiversity can be preserved. Students explore various approaches to preservation and identify the challenges each poses to policy makers. Use of primary source material is key, and excerpts from journals, newspaper articles, and books are provided for student review and critique. Nine activities introduce the concept and significance of biodiversity, examine six preservation strategies, and culminate the unit with an action project in which students develop a neighborhood plan for preserving local biodiversity. Handouts, activity cards, and resource cards are also provided.
