Description:  Investigating and Evaluating Environmental Issues and Actions (1996, 270 p.) is a two-part middle school book that focuses on the methods by which environmental problems are solved. The first part is the Skills Development Program. Beginning with an examination of beliefs, values, and personal interactions with the environment, the activities move on to illustrate the process of looking at environmental issues, conducting research, using surveys and questionnaires, and collecting and interpreting data. Finally, environmental action strategies—guidelines for decision-making, methods and modes of action—are presented. The second part is the Teacher's Edition, offering teaching suggestions and background information, including descriptions of the four components of environmental literacy—ecological foundations, awareness of issues and human values, investigation and evaluation of issues and solutions, and citizenship action.
