Mission Statement: Our Mission is to educate all age levels on stewardship of coastal land and water resources.
We have a native plant nursery on site for training and education on native plant restoration. We have tools and library resources for natural resource monitoring, including aquatic macroinvertebrates and V-star. We have overnight facilities in a Farmhouse, Cabins and campground for visitors and school groups. People can e-mail us through jughandle@creek.org, or call us at (707) 964-4630 for more information.
This is a K-12 education project with a unifying concept of watershed ecology and health. Younger grades participate in awareness activities, field trips, and classroom presentations about watershed wildlife, aquatic insects, riparian plants, and learn how to propagate and plant out native plants at Jughandle's native plant nursery. Older grades are involved in education/restoration activities as well as watershed monitoring. We work in partnership with the Americorps Watershed Stewards Program and the Department of Fish and Game. Service learning activities are an integral part of the project. Funded by the State Department of Fish and Game and the Mendocino County Fish and Game Advisory Commission.
In 2004, Jughandle has added a wetlands education component to its outreach program to schools. Partners in the presentations and their development were U.C. Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program and members of the Americorps Watershed Stewards Program.
